Henry Galetschky Mar Zoning proponent Planning ng and zoning means giving up some of our rights to use our property way the-way we want in order to gain other rights says one of the officials who helped write Boone County's present ordinance Henry Galetschky a planning specialist at the University advises governments throughout the state as he be travels' travels for the extension urban affairs pro program Planning and zoning is a new tool Galetschky says The planning commission and the tOO people have to gain experience in using it it Galetschky says part of the tb problem with establishing workable planning and zoning ordinances is that most counties start with model ordinances and standardized zoning requirements which might not fit fist the needs of the community These model ordinances he says have to be molded to fit the rate of development in each community Local use land-use regulations are necessary Galetschky says and the th ultimate goal is coordinating county ordinances with city ordinances It is a desirable desir ble goal but its it's far off because of the attitudes of the people You cant can't stuff this down their throats Galetschky's study of mobile homes in Missouri in 1973 led him to urge less restrictive mobile home ordinances because they are rapidly becoming the only way many people can afford decent housing h ng
