I Energy Report Released WASHINGTON UP U P I America can meet its massive energy demands without de de- despoiling despoiling de- de despoiling spoiling the environment by spending more money and making more careful use of resources the administrations administration's Council on Environmental Quality Quality ity said Tuesday in 10 a special report Energy and the Environment the Council said electrical con con- consumption consumption consumption has grown 7 per cent per year during the last Jast decade In 1960 for example an estimated per cent of American homes had air conditioners In 1971 the figure was per cent The number of homes with electric dishwashers went from 63 per percent percent percent cent in 1960 1980 to per cent in 1971 The Council said strict controls can be put on things that harm the atmosphere and Americans can still get the energy they feel they need The way to do it is through conservation higher prices on some sources and shifting to different fuels for some pro pre processes processes that use existing fuels inefficiently the report ted Stephen a council staff member said Stringent environmental controls can enable us to use what sources we have now in acceptable ways
