MU NI U. U Meets Olio Ohio Ohio State State In I I First Road Game By 8 Jeff Missourian Sports Writer Trying Tring to see if it assistant Missouri basketball coach roach Don Kelley Kelle remembered his college days someone asked him this week round on the ends and high in the middle Kelley Kelley- smiled sn He knew this one OHIO he answered and then recited the rest of the rhyme made famous by the Ohio State cheerleaders High in the middle Kelley Kelle remembered that from his ex ex- experience experience experience as captain of Ohio States State's basketball team fans rhyme the phrase with riddle in their spoof about the spelling of their states state's name Then they look to Mr Luke Witte who at the height of or seven feet is very wry high t gh He is also very famous for his feats as a Buckeye basketball player in m the middle of course This time its it's no joke Witte is one of four returning Buckeye starters this U s year who tonight will become Missouri's second straight stra Big Ten opponent THE TIGERS left Columbia early Friday for their first road game of the season and practiced Friday Frida afternoon in to St. St Johns John's Arena for tonight's game They do almost everything e in a very vel big way at the campus in it Columbus Enrollment is now up to about give or take tak a few students Business establishments there on High Street Str t which I runs through the middle n of or campus cant can't get gel riot insurance anymore more since rowdy football fans sometimes take to busting busing out store windows after winning And right in the middle n of campus the worlds world's known best hamburger franchise has what must be their largest single installation One day da some fans insist coach Fred Taylor stopped in and was asked if he might be interested in a Big Mac Depends Taylor said How tall WI is he and what's his position YOU GET the feeling that Taylor takes his basketball seriously Since te 1959 I when he 00 became head coach Taylor has baa produced seven Big Ten Championship teams W This year is making another strong bid for the top with wi witha a team that includes no state out out out out-of state players Witte at center has averaged more than 15 points a game in inOSU's inus inu's us u's first three games Rames this year and together with guard pard Allan Homyak averaging 23 points a night the Buckeyes have what could be called a pretty fair inside outside combo rombo But the Buckeyes have been having their belt troubles In their thelt first tine three games Raines this season they've they're lit hit only per par cent of their the t shots slots from the field They lost to Washington by four points Missouri's three coaches have not watched any of three games ames this year Instead they've used a scouting service for their information So what does Norm Nann Stewart know about the he Buckeyes Too much he Ir said ALWAYS real rea strong If were we're going to do anything this has got to t be our best ball baU game ao so far Weve got to cut down our mistakes and pull pun our ow defense together If we can do that weve we've got a chance to win winSt Stopping St ping Homyak Hornyak will be the key to our wr defense This team turn I think I know will present more problems than weve we've faced this year And with ith all aD the size sine they've got I really dont don't know yet t how well we'll defense them When asked about Missouri Stewart is apt to talk about what's wrong and not what's right Consistency is real important in basketball and we haven't haven shown a great amount of that yet he said Our players are playing play with poise but wt still not with enough confidence ce Oh Ob what should I call it Reckless abandon THERE mERE ARE SOME times when they've they're struggled and I really reaDy dont don't think theres there's a need for that Our front line definitely has hili been the strongest part of our team tum so ao far Felixs Felix's Jerman play u as u. u a sophomore has baa been encouraging but hes he's still trying to improve in some acme areas area Al AI Alt t Eberhard had hid an outstanding game lame against Louisiana Tech and John t Brown has baa scored I well Rebounding could be a problem for far us if we continue the way were we're going now because we are re playing with a shorter club dub I think tt k Rick Atlas Gail Wolf and LaMont Turner are progressing and we hope to get some help from f ran them In regard to size Mae When Don Dan Kelley was en o the freshman team at Ohio State in inthe inthe inthe the early fifties he was watt coached by a former fame center who Keilty I dont don't consider it different from any other otter game we play From a personal standpoint its it's it nice rice to go to my home area ILL SAY THIS nus though Im I'm proud of our OW University of Missouri kids We know MOW that were we're capable of beating any team on our schedule if we play our type of tame pine Knowing that you have ave a dance chance to do what you want to do
