X Dr Ellis University students administrators a faculty faculty members and alumnae will realize s a great loss to lo lowith ss with the retirement of an ordinary extra president pry i dent Elmer Ellis During Dr Ellis' Ellis tenure terge at the helm the th e University has moved to a position near the to top in American educational excellence Believing g always that teaching IB Is the first responsibility y gy of an am educational institution the president has ha s guided in the gathering of a faculty to com corn compare compare pare with any MY The student body has hes grown nearly dou dou- doubled doubled doubled bled in size but he has hu fought and won the th battle to keep quality not merely quantity as aR the hallmark of University education He has h maintained a consistent atmosphere toward tow learning which is manifest now more than ever before in the students student's ability to face a troubled tangled world Dr Ellis has has worked hard to keep the University Uni University University moving Under his leadership facilities have been improved and Ind enlarged The Nuclear Reactor the new Geology Building and the new swimming pool are some of the more recent examples Few will deny the need for more and better facilities These will wilI come but Dr Ellis has main main- maintained maintained a dynamic attitude within and about the University He has kept it moving so it may move further Dr Ellis came to the University in 1930 as asan asan asan an assistant professor of history He moved through the ranks of professor acting dean of the graduate school dean of the faculty of Arts and Science vice president in charge of extra divisional educational activities and then to president President Ellis has earned for the school recognition as a leading leadin institution of learning and for for himself the utmost respect as a leading educator of the century He has in short done donean donean an excellent job
