t t SI OJ WI 7 Stage 10 on the movie lot in Boreham Wood was made up to look like the inside of a World War II army stockade There re is an ennui to movie making that an outsider cant can't grasp Its It's like the real army where you always hurry up and wait The The real pros take it in stride Lee Marvin Telly TeUy Charles Bronson Clint Walker and John Cassavetes sit at the thelong thelong thelong long prop loaded dinner table They turn the emotion of a 8 tense scene ocene on and off aU like an electric switch With them is Jimmy Brown Hes He's casual too Hes a beautiful man said Cassavetes an intense tal talented actor who has bas also directed fine films I think hell he'll be become come a better actor than he was a football player When he came into the picture I didn't know he was Jimmy Brown the football player I didn't associate the two I 1 wondered about him But Hsi It he comes prepared And you have to This is the most competitive business inthe in inthe inthe the world If U he can get by in this bunch of guys he can do OK any place Browns Brown's acting career began when he was in Los Les Angeles Angelea two and led a half bait years ago to play in the Pro Bowl He Be got a phone call asking if hed he'd like Uke to ro play in a western It was an opus called Ek 1113 Combos Coaches sad and Browns Brown's part was mostly flexing his muscles I I tried to be relaxed he be recalled I r tried to deliver my lines easy to fit in Here Ive I've got to do more than fit in The challenge of acting changes as you get a little more astute Im I'm trying to compete to live the part Im I'm Robert Jefferson When we have a scene and Im I'm opposite John Cassavetes I think of Robert Jefferson being opposite Victor Franko the character he plays Does he find the competition an extension of the same thing he experienced in football Its as hard as playing a game It drains you Youre You're just justas as tired Actors like to zing you as they say They like to surprise you within the confines of the script and bring out the real re- re response re re- response response in you You have to meet these challenges by zinging back When you have two actors in a scene and they're really zinging singing and its it's real the audience senses that realness And then you come out with what we construe as a good picture It possible that the other actors experienced in ia their craft might help him over the rough spots That went weal out with grade school scoffed Marvin He Ha doesn't need any help He just has to be Jimmy Brown BroW He lIe has hasa a tremendous opportunity because hes he's the first Negro actor to come along that the average man in Watts or Harlem or the Use Detroit ghetto can identify with He looks tike like them and Ded slouches like them and talks like them Not like Sidney PoWer who goes around all day talking Shakespeare And this Ws is why I think that Jimmy Brown at the age of 30 is through with football and will stay in his new medium H He has hag haga a commitment from Paramount Pictures for another film with an option for two more mOle He is convinced there is room for him hira hims himas as a Negro leading actor Sidney is the only one now baby he said Besides Jimmy Brown he meant among all aU the Charlies
