Designer Shakes Apparel Traditions Joins Y NEW YORK UPI UP Deanna Littell Littel is a dropout from ballet chool choo New But the year old Yorker turned her creative and artistic talents to fashion and andas andas andas as part of the is helping to shake hake up many apparel traditions Take lingerie alone which is part of her design performance With lace it is incompatible today to day when clothes 0 the s are stripped to the essentials all an color and line said the designer who in 1965 1955 won a special Coty fashion award WITH SKIRTS as short as they are lingerie is bound to show when a woman sits down Heres Here's a woman in a tweed a lace petticoat beneath Oh theres there's nothing wrong with frilly lingerie if if its it's under a frilly lacy evening dress Mrs Littell said that clothes now are coverings for active vital bodies More women are in and out of cars buses subways You cant can't do that in crinoline SHE FEELS that never be be- before before before fore in fashion has there been such accent on the body bod were showing more than ever before and the need no longer is for underpinnings which constrict In her fall collection for Warners Warner's one of four firms for whom she designs she used knits in calico patterns for sleeping steeping smocks pajamas bikini bikini bikini ni briefs half slips and T-shirt T tops and trunks Tricot lingerie showed in solid bright navies and reds with yellow trims Deanna Little at 27 has reached a level le of success many another designers work 20 years for In addition to the lingerie line she designs for the collection collection collection Boutique wear ready tion of for Paraphernalia nalia a group of stores specializing in the unusual in dress and accessories does patterns for and also designs some of her own fabrics SHE JUGGLES her work schedule like a WC we Fields act sometimes doing fittings at one firm on her lunch hour hopping off to another for an afternoon Mrs Littell born in New NewYork NewYork NewYork York studied ballet ball et at the city's High School for the Performing Arts and the American Ballet School But she decided ballet was too monastic for me and turned to design She had sewn and sold clothes for a Greenwich Village shop even before she enrolled at the Parsons School of Design from which she was graduated in 10 1960 She is married to Robert Rober Littell en on the staff of Newsweek magazine THE DAY I 1 talked with her she was Vias wearing what could be typical of her young looking styles a a collarless easy easy- fitting dress in assorted shades of yellow red and mauve low heeled strap T-strap T strap patent shoes her hemline four or five inches above the knees her brown hair pulled back into a braided pigtail The dress turned out to be an Emilio Emilie design by by the time Ive I've worked on my own collections for six months Im I'm tired of everything she explained SHE SAID the youth look caught on in fashion for assorted reasons Half the population is under 25 years of age and stores traditionally conservative finally have begun to cater to these the e young customers and to the designers who create for them The oung no longer are the hope of the future she said that goes in all fields Weve We've arrived arri ed
